Age: 22, Years running: 17, Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan, Favorite product: HELIOS
What are some of your lifetime running goals?
I would like to finish in the top 15 at the World Mountain Running Championships, qualify for the Olympic Trials Marathon, and finish top 3 in an Ultra Major. I'd also like to try and keep injuries to a minimum!
Do you have a claim to fame?
I started a running blog early in college and it got pretty popular. Some people know me as the "Eat Run Swag" guy now. I also fell on video behind an Olympian once...
Do you have any vices?
Good Lord I love beer.
What makes you tick as a runner and in the real world?
Having some sort of challenge keeps me going. Whether I'm seeking out the toughest mountain race I can find or working in an inner-city school, I get bored if what I'm doing isn't challenging.
What drives you to run?
I've loved it for as long as I can remember. I started running around age 5. I run because I love doing it, but I also like testing my physical limits.
What is your favorite movie?
It's probably a tie between Casablanca and The Departed.
Do you have any nicknames? Explain:
Z-Money, Strydefast. I used to have a rap "career".
What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? Why?
probably around 38 hours. Trying (and failing) to sleep in an incredibly hot tent surrounded by thousands of crazy hippies in the middle of nowhere Tennessee in June at Bonnaroo. Never again.
If you had to be named after one of the 50 states, which would it be?
New Mexico., Better than Old Mexico!
What did you have for lunch yesterday?
4 tacos, a Mandarino Jarritos soda, and chips and Guac.
If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head, would you see pictures, hear words or would music be playing?
Music for sure. Sometimes on really long runs I can play entire songs in my head to pass the time.
What really scares you about trail running?
Breaking my ankles! I've rolled them quite a few times, and Max King did a pretty good number on his ankle at Mountain World's this past September. Gotta be careful!
If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?
My Legs are Sore: The Movie
Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?
In a cabin in the mountains in Colorado. It'd have to have cable so I could watch Netflix though, I don't wanna be completely cut off from society. Access to french fries would probably be a must, too.
What’s your worst encounter on the trail?
While I've seen a few rattlesnakes, I still think the water station at the top of the biggest hill at Mountain World's in Poland that only handed out sparkling water is the worst thing I've ever come across on a trail. Who the heck drinks sparkling water during a hill race??
