Do you clip bolts, plug cams, stack pads, or crush ice?

I climb mostly sport and trad routes...and serve as belay slave for my two young sons...the "send bros"!

How long have you been an athlete with La Sportiva?

18 years!

What are some of your lifetime climbing goals?

At this point, the goal is to keep climbing for life....at the highest level possible.

Do you have a claim to fame?

Well, I've writing a few climbing books that have sold over 150,000 copies worldwide. Also, as long-time activist back East I (long ago) established the first 5.13 climbs in both PA and WV.

Do you have any vices?

Coffee, pastries, and Malbec wine.

What makes you tick as a climber and in the real world?

I have many passions that keep me moving almost 24-7. I work hard, play hard, and try to pass on positive energy and knowledge to upcoming climbers.

What drives you to climb? The money? The groupies? The fame? What?

Climbing is about the experience...the physical, mental, and spiritual.

What is your favorite movie?

All the James Bond movies, the Eiger Sanction (the original "climbing movie"), and all the great new climbing DVDs.

Do you have any nicknames? Explain:

"E" or "Big E"...as in Eric.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? Why?

Never gone a full night without sleep...came close in college, while studying for exams, but it didn't payoff...it was a big mistake! The brain needs sleep to function optimally!

If you had to be named after one of the 50 states, which would it be?

Wyoming. It's the least populated state, and its rich in climbing.

What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Coffee and a Balance bar...same as most other days.

If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head, would you see pictures, hear words or would music be playing?

Mostly pictures...although I do subvocalize words and music quite often.

What really scares you about climbing?

ground falls...

If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?

Maximum Living: The Eric Horst Story.

Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?

Somewhere in WY, UT, or CO...

Do you wish you had sexier feet?

Never thought about it.
