Do you clip bolts, plug cams, stack pads, or crush ice?

Hmm, I balance a Jenga game of rock disciplines to hopefully push that wobbling tower that is me as a climber higher. Placing gear, clipping bolts and falling onto pads is all part of climbing to me. The ice though? No idea…yet.

How long have you been an athlete with La Sportiva?

Funny you should ask. Officially – about 3 days. Philosophically from about the time I got tired of returning shoes from another brand to the local outdoor store for yet another pair because of poor craftsmanship. That would equal about 5 years enjoying La Sportiva.

What are some of your lifetime climbing goals?

This is starting to feel like a date – seriously though, a major success could be defined as enjoying the process of getting better, not beating yourself up too much while probing the unknown surrounded by good friends. That and climbing Ahab at El Cap’s base. That thing is insane

Do you have a claim to fame?

I was hoping La Sportiva could help me out with that…. I did have an “as close as you can get” call while rappelling years and years ago and shouldn’t have really made it through that one. I guess you can fall almost 50 feet onto your bottom and not break anything…once.

Do you have any vices?

My workshop is pretty non existent so I barely have a hammer or saw, let alone any different types of vices. Maybe one day.

What makes you tick as a climber and in the real world?

People and their relationships to the world around them. A wise man once told me that climbing was the truth. If that’s so then people are what bring truth into climbing. Tres Cosmique.

What drives you to climb? The money? The groupies? The fame? What?

Getting pushed out of my comfort zone and being shown what it is that I really want to work hard for. Fame, Groupies and money – have you ever heard of The Rolling Stones?

What is your favorite movie?

Alien with Sigourney Weaver. An instructive story on politics, greed and how Aliens are not to be trifled with.

Do you have any nicknames? Explain:

A well known and famous Canadian Mountain Guide once coined “Porky” because I have a bit of pig in my heart from open heart surgery. It is really not ok to say that if you’re not him though.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? Why?

Either my botched but fun Nose in a Day which saw me top out 27 hours later or my days in Art school staying up all night drawing. Both made you feel strange the next day.

If you had to be named after one of the 50 states, which would it be?

A State, what's a state? – Alaska because it should really be part of Canada anyways.

What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Lunch yesterday? Something drowned in a lot of hot sauce. Argh I love Mexican food, why can't Canada have more of it!

If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head, would you see pictures, hear words or would music be playing?

Pictures, too many pictures, maybe even moving pictures.

What really scares you about climbing?

The fact that it might not gain popularity with the younger audience because of the ridiculous liability climate in North America.

If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?

"Jer And The Argonauts"

Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?

Canada is home. Squamish is home.

Have no food or have no gasoline?

Have no diesel. I can entertain myself just fine thank you very much. Good food is very important.

Do you wish you had sexier feet?

From what I’ve heard my feet are smokin'- I think it's an attraction, a fatal attraction.
