Since 2013

What are some of your lifetime climbing goals?

Climb big walls in Venezuela and put up new routes on some of the Tepuis. Climb 5.15 before I turn 40. Be able to travel the world and climb.

Do you have a claim to fame?

Founding and running “P.M.A.”, a training program for adult climbers at the Boulder Rock Club.

Do you have any vices?

My wife might say my major vice is training for climbing. I also love caffeine and P.B.Rs.

What makes you tick as a climber and in the real world?

Basically, I thrive on beautiful, difficult, long and steep rock climbs. Also new routes and new climbing areas.

What drives you to climb? The money? The groupies? The fame? What?

It depends. At the beginning, exploring the vertical world was an adventure. Later, I started to enjoy the part of the physical exertion and the movement. I love the way the movement and the fitness make me feel. In the end, climbing presents real and tangible challenges that nothing else in life can match. Also it is a great way to be outdoors and interact with nature and friends.

Juancho. Trucupey. It comes from an old school salsa song by Hector Lavoe.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? Why?

maybe two days, it was related to art work and painting for exhibitions.

If you had to be named after one of the 50 states, which would it be?

Colorado because when I get nervous, my cheeks get red.

What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Tortilla Española (Spanish Tortilla).

If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head, would you see pictures, hear words or would music be playing?

Most of the time, imagine a very abstract painting with Reggae-punk music playing in the background.

What really scares you about climbing?

falling rocks or ice.

If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?

Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?

I would take turns between big cities like New York or Paris and less populated regions like La Patagonia or La Gran Sabana in Venezuela. Of course, I would have to pass through the beach… ahhh... ummm

No gasoline, you cannot eat gasoline, even though I used to love how it smells.
