Do you clip bolts, plug cams, stack pads, or crush ice?

Mostly clip bolts and stack pads...I have found that ice is really cold, not a huge fan of the cold.

How long have you been an athlete with La Sportiva?

This will be my fifth year with La Sportiva.

What are some of your lifetime climbing goals?

My number one lifetime goal has, and will always be to make climbing a life long pursuit. To love it every day until my body can't physically handle it.

Do you have a claim to fame?

Many lifetimes ago I was able to crank a one arm pull up with my wife piggy-backed...that was kind of cool.

Do you have any vices?

I LOVE a good cup of espresso, and can't say no to cup cakes.

What makes you tick as a climber and in the real world?

What makes me tick?? ummmm..... I guess what continues to amaze me and motivate me is that even on my most off day of climbing I know that I wouldn't have it any other way. I cannot imagine my life without climbing. There will always be ups and downs, some longer than others, but the fact that I enjoy every second of it is what makes me tick I guess.

What drives you to climb? The money? The groupies? The fame? What?

For a very long time I let all the wrong things motivate me. I wanted big numbers, and high comp placements. Not so much any more. Now I am driven simply by the pleasure I get from climbing, and maybe more so from coaching. I am just as happy lapping 5.10 as I am working 5.14's. Climbing and the awesome community of climbers of all abilities has become a part of who I am. To stop would be the end of me for sure.

What is your favorite movie?

This seems to be an ever changing list but right now I am pretty stoked on: The Pianist, Blood Diamond, Edge of Tomorrow....and my guilty pleasure is Pitch Perfect.....I know...

Do you have any nicknames? Explain:

Growing up in the comp/setting scene I was always called Mini Me, as I was oddly similar to a good friend/coach of mine. Don't really have a current nick name, my hair stylist/bouldering fiend buddy calls me Macky-Fay...hasn't quite stuck yet.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep? Why?

I'm sure I have made it around 48-72 hours...most of it was a "just because" scenario as a kid I'm sure. But often when setting comps, if we were under staffed I would pull all nighters to get all the routes up on time.

If you had to be named after one of the 50 states, which would it be?

Is Boulder a state yet? Maybe it's own country?

What did you have for lunch yesterday?

Left over Pineapple Thai Curry.

If you could hook up a thought monitor to your head, would you see pictures, hear words or would music be playing?

You would probably hear a bunch of grumpy ranting.

What really scares you about climbing?

The fact that it is growing so rapidly. Don't get me wrong, I love that climbing is becoming more mainstream, but I worry about the number of new climbers flooding the local crags who might not have been properly educated on outdoor ethics. Shameless plug:

If your life was made into a movie, what would it be called?

Super Bad

Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?

I recently had the opportunity to visit some old friends in Alforja, Spain. I only got to spend a week climbing in the area, but the number of routes and crags was mind blowing. The people were super kind and the pace of life was incredible. If I could move to Spain, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Have no food or have no gasoline?

Theoretically if I have gas I could drive to the store?? Is that allowed?

Do you wish you had sexier feet?

Not possible...they are already as sexy as can be.
