2014 Red Rock Rendezvous Recap

We are excited to report on another successful Red Rock Rendezvous from Las Vegas, NV!  La Sportiva has been a long-time supporter of the event and we have watched it grow, morph, and evolve in many different ways over the years.  One thing that has never changed is the great people that come together to make it happen and the amazing rock climbing that can be found in the surrounding area.

On March 28th rock climbing enthusiasts from all across the country gathered at Spring Mountain Ranch to participate in the 3-day event.  Extra stakes and tie downs were provided to campers as the venue is notorious for hurricane-like gusts of wind that will launch all but the most bomb-proof anchor systems into the air along with whatever they were connected to without warning.  Vendors practiced similar techniques as many who have attended the RRR before know a 10’x10’ EZ Up Tent is just another way of saying, “sail” or “massive kite” when the weather kicks up.

Day 1 brought nothing but sunshine and participants were able to comfortably browse the vendor area discovering new products and tried and true classics along the way.  Many participants were surprised to see the new La Sportiva apparel but were thrilled to find out that it is now available in North America.  As the day faded into the evening, the spotlights fired up and kept the scene alive with presentations and music well into the night.

Saturday morning, participants were able to check out a pair of La Sportiva demo shoes including the Mythos, Miura VS, Futura, Cobra and TC Pro and take them out to for a day of climbing.  Many were on their way to informational clinics with rock star La Sportiva athletes including Jim Shimberg, Lucho Rivera, Kate Rutherford, Shannon Joslin, Jonathan Siegrist, Kyle McFarland, Heidi Wirtz, Leslie Timms, Elaina Arenz, and Audrey Sniezek.  Others set out for a day of unguided adventure but all were excited to basque in the spring temperatures of the Mojave Desert.

As climbers returned from a full day of bouldering, rock climbing or other activities the event offers such as trail running and biking, participants returned their demo shoes and headed to the Mountain Gear tent for an opportunity to purchase the products they had just tested.  Another round of activities from the vendor area capped off with dinner and free beer provided by New Belgium and participants were ready to party into the night at Bonnie Springs or turn in early to repeat again on Sunday.

A few dramatic gusts of wind kept anyone with a tent on their toes throughout the weekend but for the most part, the weekend allowed for tank tops and sandals, the way it should be when Rendezvousing in Vegas!
