Sunrise on the way to an morning training mission

A little over one month ago I qualified for the US Ski Mountaineering Team at the US Championships in Jackson Hole, Wy. Since that moment I have been working very hard at preparing to represent the US in Italy at the World Championships.

Granted my physical preparation began long ago, yet there have been many more hours training added to the work that had already been done. I have spent many hours training at the local ski area via headlamp in the dark after work. Also, I have been lucky enough to have had many training tours and peak ascents on days off from work while preparing for this event. For more specifics on my training click here. I consider myself very lucky to be able to train and prepare myself for racing in the mountains, there isn't any place I love being more!

In addition to the physical training there have been many hours of prepping and tweaking gear so that all I have to worry about while racing is keeping my lungs from exploding and my heart from beating out of my chest. Many members of the community have stepped up to help make this great opportunity happen, without their support I wouldn't be where I am now!

I am planning on posting to this blog several times when I am in Italy at Worlds to try to share what Ski Mountaineering Racing is like in Europe at the World Championships level. So stay tuned... I fly out Tuesday morning. Below you can find a list of the gear that I am using while in Europe as well as a short packing video.
