I gotta say, I really like these boots. I've had them for a couple years now. I use them for day hikes, mostly in the blue ridge mountains, though I take them with me all over the country and the world. This is the perfect do-anything, go-anywhere boot...IF one replaces the insole with Superfeet Greens. Those inserts make all the difference. Its an extra 50 bucks that will make all the difference, especially if you weigh over 200 lbs as I do. Hiking the entire appalachian trail? You need something sturdier. Hiking in mostly rock-covered trails? You need a stiffer sole. But for the weekend warrior who wants to do a 10-mile hike a couple times per month that will include muddy terrain to rock scrambles and long trudges on uneven terrain, these boots are awesome. The grip is fantastic, comfort (again, with superfeet) is superb, waterproofing is stellar.

I recently did a short jaunt on a sometimes busy trail off skyline drive in the shenandoah national park. There was a bottleneck at one point. Rather than wait, I effortlessly sailed above the crowd on the ridgeline, skipping along with aplomb courtesy of my high-tech footwear. The awed "hikers" below murmured admiration, including one women who said, "he can do that because he has Real Mountain Boots." That's what these will do for you. Sure, they can be used for true "approach" boots, but for those of us who work for a living and can't do >10K ft. peaks monthly, these will help you scratch the itch with style, verve, and confidence.

Disclaimer: I've tried other Sportiva boots that I sent back for a refund. These just fit so much better. And they are quite durable. After nearly two years of using these several times per month, they're barely showing wear. Thanks La Sportiva!! Please keep making this model!

I wanted something beefier than regular approach shoes, but lighter and sticker than mountaineering boots. These are prefect! I have backpacked with 35-40 pounds and then scrambled in comfort and with ease. I also use them at the crag to when approaching and establishing top ropes. These are excellent edging and smearing. I love these boots.

These boots rock! I'm on my second season and have done everything from backpacking and scrambling to moderate bouldering. The boots are real edging machines. I was able to pull down a couple V2's in Yosemite Valley wearing them.

I used these boots to hike over 50 miles in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. I wanted a shoe that was a mid for ankle support, waterproof, and could handle climbing up to 5.7. These boots blew me away with how well they broke in, handled the rugged trails and climbs, and gripped the rock effortlessly while I carried a 50lb pack! I was so happy to have these on my feet every day!

These are a fantastic shoe with good protection in the ankles and just stiff enough to be able to take on dicey approaches, yet they also hike very well. These shoes edge like crazy.
