"While the La Sportiva Katana may not be a sword in the traditional sense, it’s surely as precise as its Japanese counterpart. I have had 4 pairs (with resoles) of this shoe and can certainly say, the Katana is one of the finest rock climbing shoes I have worn..." Read the Colorado Mountain School Review

These are some awesome shoes, no doubt. They may not be as aggressive as a miura or a solution, but honestly most people don't need serious downturn when they start climbing. The heel cup is just incredible and locks you in better than almost every other shoe out there.

I have had a pair for almost 2 years and am just now replacing them, though its almost entirely indoors, being asymmetrical makes it more advanced than the most basic shoes, but still very comfortable. I can easily climb 2-3 routes with no need to take them off.

I am only just now upgrading to the solutions for a more aggressive fit, which is why I said that the katanas have almost the best heel-cup, the solutions seem a bit better, but mainly because you cram into them much easier than you would with a katana.

Overall a great shoe for a beginner and the best alternative to the other brands that would give you synthetics for the same price, you'll learn to love the leather and how it breaks in perfectly for your feet.
