While I also own and use some of the stiffer Trango boots, the Alp is often my go to boot for climbs in the North Cascades and Alps. While not quite as warm as boots further up the line, I appreciate the fact that these are lighter and the 3/4 shank makes for a much more pleasant approach hike. They hold a crampon well enough for short sections of neve up to 50 degrees, but would not be a good choice for actual water-ice or climbs with long stretches of very firm, steep snow or ice.
