Paige Claassen
Estes Park, CO
When/where were you born?
June 13, 1990 Tulsa OK
Started climbing when/where?
Fall of 2000 at the old gym in Estes Park
Favorite climbing area?
Locally, Rifle because there are so many different options to fit different climbing styles - steep, vertical, powerful, long. Overseas, Rodellar Spain. I only got to go for 1 day but can't wait to go back! I've never climbed on such long routes with tufas and all other kinds of holds that I've never felt before!
What was your scariest climbing moment?
Fortunately, I don't think I've had an epic-ly scary climbing moment. The first time I ever led my belayer dropped me nearly to the ground to get me used to falling. I think I cried for the rest of the afternoon.
Who are your heroes/role models?
Definately my parents. And anyone who's motivated to climb hard and raise the psych level!
Do you have any knicknames
I guess Ragin' Paigin'
Do you have any pre-climb rituals?
Eat good food with fun people, chat, hang out, relax, maybe listen to some intense jams.
What do you do when you're not climbing?
hang out with the family, yoga, and COOK!
What are your climbing goals?
To never loose my motivation because that is the key to getting strong-you have to want it. I'd definately like to get out there and hop on some harder routes and test my limits but I think that is the fun that follows once you get your head in the right place.
Why do you choose La Sportiva?
Sportiva is the company I can count on when I'm standing on that dime edge at the top of the year long project (which I am still looking for). With a perfect fit and trustworthy rubber, my shoes are the last worry I'll have going for the anchors.
What sets La Sportiva apart?
A motivated team (within both the company and the athletes) keeps Sportiva at the top of their game, always looking to set the bar high and improve consistently ideal products. Plus, they provide the narrowest foot out there with the perfect fit and friction.
Parting thoughts?
What would you attempt to do if you knew you'd never fail? Thats deep.
