Best Hiking "Boots" That Don't Feel Like Boots!
I absolutely love these "boots". I've owned two pairs of these. What drew me to them initially was the lightweight, but durable construction. The midsole/soles of the boots are not too rigid and stiff, but are still very supporting and have stability. The rubber is very grippy, albeit a little soft so they do wear slightly faster than other boots. The upper construction with the nano cells allow a perfect fit and is very forgiving, which allows me to maneuver really well with tricky terrain. They are described as a mids, but they don't really go over my ankles. So they don't provide much support in that regard, but I'm not one to really need that support as I have strong ankles and prefer the flexibility/maneuverability. They come up just touching the ankle bone. I've gone on plenty of multiple-day backpacking trips with them, and they've held up so well! I love the speed-lacing system, and they are so easy to get on and off. The gore-tex surround really is a dream. They keep my feet absolutely dry when crossing some streams and stepping in deep puddles, yet are still very breathable and don't find my feet getting too sweaty. So to summarize, if you're like me and don't like the feel of bulky, heavy boots, and want a shoe that feels more like running shoes/trail runners, look no further.

Disappointment
I will start by saying that I typically love sportiva shoes. The fit is snug and supportive.

Construction of this particular shoe is lackluster at best. After 1 week of light hiking in Colorado the back green trim is already peeling away from the heel of the shoe. The laces provided are fraying far too soon.

Disappointment. :(

Not a fan of the curled up toes
They seem like pretty good shoes, well built, sticky rubber, aggressive tread pattern, water proof, etc. My question is, why do the toes need to be curled up so much. When I stand barefoot my toes don't point up and I'm not sure why they need to in my shoes. After an hour or so, my toes hurt. Also, I have only worn them a few times and the protective rubber on the tip of the shoe is separating from the shoe a little bit. I just bought a pair of TX3 shoes this week and the toes aren't turned up nearly as much. I think they are better at least for my feet. I also have a pair of Ultra Raptors that have a similar turned up toe and they bother me a bit also.

Buying another pair
Light, waterproof, cool in summer, good support. Speed lacing works well and stays secure. Can’t ask for more. Current pair is 2+ years old. Just bought another. Pricey, but well worth the money.

Very Cimfortable
My husband has 2 pairs of these, both colors, and loves them. They keep his feet dry plus they are super comfy and supportive. I have the womens version and could not agree more.

Comfy and versatile
I'm on my third pair of these. They are really light and breath better than any other gore tex shoe I've worn. They are kind of like a running shoe in terms of weight and cushioning and you can expect to have about the same lifespan as a running shoe. This is made to be high performance hiking, not a burly boot that lasts ten years. As long as you know what to expect, these are a great hiking shoe.

Love them! I recommend them to everyone!
Had them for 2 years and am ready for some new laces and maybe the inner sole liner. They are so lightweight and comfortable and I can wear them all day long. I am a happy camper with these!

Good for a couple of years
I bought a pair of these for winter walks in February 2016 and found them to be very light, comfortable, warm and waterproof. However, within a year, cracks started to appear in the outer shell around the toes (though they remained waterproof). Just after two years, the soles of both sides started to become detached from the toe area, making them difficult to use and no longer waterproof. I attempted to make a warranty claim from La Sportiva but was told the boots had 'evidently worn out' - which is not great for $185 footwear. So, enjoy them while they last!

Great shoe!
SO far I love this Synthesis mid.
The first time I wore these I hiked Mt. Ellinor in Olympic N.P. in WA.
Then I hiked the upper skyline Trail in Rainier with them.
Then it was on to Pinnacle Peak in Rainier.
Love the comfort, the lace system, the major breathability, and that they don't need much breaking in if at all.
Keep up the good work La Sportiva!
